Melrose Park HVAC Repair: AC Not Blowing Cold Air?

*Estimated Read Time: 11 minutes* AC not blowing cold air? Here’s how to fix it fast, what to check yourself, and when to call a pro. We’ll walk you through the most common causes, easy homeowner steps, and smart maintenance moves that stop repeat breakdowns. If you’re in Chicago or nearby, our 24/7 team can help the same day. Keep reading for solutions and real-world tips from local jobs. H2: Quick Safety and What To Check First Before you start, set the thermostat to Cool and lower it 3 to 5 degrees. Confirm the system has power and the furnace/air handler door is closed. Many systems have a safety switch that cuts power when the door is open. Do this first: 1. Verify thermostat mode and batteries. A weak battery can drop the cooling call. 2. Check the furnace/air handler switch and breaker. Reset a tripped breaker once only. 3. Inspect the outdoor disconnect by the condenser. It must be fully seated. 4. Let the system rest 5 minutes, then try again. Some boards need a short reset. Pro tip for Chicago homes: rooftop and gangway condensers often share electric circuits with garage or exterior outlets. A recent GFCI trip can silently stop cooling. Reset the exterior GFCI if it is tripped. H2: Airflow: The Most Common Cold-Air Killer If air cannot move, you will not feel cold air. Start with airflow. H3: Replace or Clean the Filter A clogged filter starves your evaporator coil of air and can cause icing. The U.S. Department of Energy notes that replacing a dirty, clogged filter can reduce your AC energy use by 5 to 15 percent. Check the size on the frame, match the arrow to airflow direction, and set a reminder every 30 to 60 days during peak season. H3: Open Vents and Clear Returns Walk the home and make sure supply vents are open and not blocked by rugs or furniture. Clear return grills of dust. In Chicago two-flats and condos, a few closed vents can throw the whole system off balance and create warm rooms. H3: Check for Ice on the Indoor Coil Remove the lower blower door only if you are comfortable. If you see ice or a sheet of frost, turn the system Off and set the fan to On for 2 to 3 hours to thaw. Do not chip ice. Ice often points to low airflow or a refrigerant issue. H2: Thermostat and Electrical Issues You Can Solve H3: Reboot Smart Thermostats Software hiccups happen. Remove the thermostat face for 30 seconds or follow the manufacturer reboot steps. Update the app and confirm the Wi‑Fi schedule is not overriding cooling calls. H3: Check the Float/Condensate Switch If your drain is clogged, a float switch can stop cooling to prevent water damage. Look for a small device on the drain line near the furnace. Pour a 50/50 warm water and vinegar mix into the drain to clear light sludge. If water backs up or you are in a condo with ceiling units, call a pro. H3: Inspect the Outdoor Unit The fan should spin freely and run during cooling. If the unit hums but the fan does not move, turn it Off. A failed capacitor or motor may be the cause. Running it could damage the compressor. H2: Dirty Coils and Outdoor Blockages H3: Clean the Condenser Coils City grit, cottonwood, and alley debris clog coils and raise pressures, which kills cooling. With power Off at the disconnect: 1. Gently rinse from the inside out if panels allow easy access. 2. Straighten bent fins with a fin comb. 3. Keep 2 feet of clearance from fences, grills, or trash bins. If you have a rooftop condenser, reach and safety become concerns. Our technicians often service these with ladders safely secured and proper fall protection. H3: Indoors: Evaporator Coil Hygiene A matted evaporator coil insulates cold refrigerant from your air. Access is often sealed and requires proper tools and cleaners. During our $79 Deep Clean and Tune Up, we pull and clean accessible blower wheels and clear debris to restore airflow. H2: Refrigerant Problems: What You Should and Should Not Do Low refrigerant or a metering device issue will stop cold air. By federal law, only EPA Section 608–certified technicians may handle refrigerants. Homeowners should not attempt to connect gauges or add refrigerant. What you can do: 1. Look for oily residue on refrigerant lines or at the coil. Oil can mark a leak. 2. Note if the larger line outside is not cold or sweating during operation. 3. Share any freeze-up events or hissing sounds with your technician. If there is a leak, the right fix is locate, repair, and then weigh in the proper charge. Topping off without a leak repair is often a short-term bandage. H2: When the AC Runs but the Air Is Warm H3: Capacitors and Contactors These start and run components fail more during heat waves and thunderstorms. Symptoms include humming, intermittent starts, or a fan that stops randomly. These are fast, affordable repairs when diagnosed correctly. H3: Fan or Blower Motor Failure If the indoor blower stops, you may feel no airflow at registers. If the outdoor fan stops, the compressor can overheat. Turn the system Off and call for service to protect the compressor. H3: Metering Device or Thermostat Miscalibration A sticky TXV or a miscalibrated thermostat can cause short cycling, poor cooling, and uneven temps. Smart thermostats need proper system type selection and C‑wire power for stable control. H2: Drainage and Water Protection Chicago humidity off the lake loads your AC with moisture. A clogged condensate drain can trip safety switches and shut cooling down. DIY steps: 1. Locate the PVC drain near your indoor unit. 2. Remove the cap on the cleanout tee and pour a cup of 50/50 vinegar and warm water. 3. If the pan is full or you see rust, schedule service. Overflow can damage ceilings and floors. In multi‑unit buildings, shared drains can be the real culprit. We frequently coordinate with building management to clear lines safely and avoid neighbor disputes. H2: Duct Leaks and Hot Rooms If bedrooms are warm while the hallway is cool, your ducts may be leaking or unbalanced. Attic and crawlspace runs are common leak points. What helps: 1. Seal visible gaps with mastic, not duct tape. 2. Add return air in larger rooms if the system design allows. 3. Balance dampers seasonally. More open upstairs in summer, slightly less in winter. H2: Preventive Maintenance That Actually Works H3: Seasonal Deep Clean and Tune Up Our 90‑minute Deep Clean helps prevent breakdowns and improve efficiency. It includes up to 90 minutes of AC or heat pump tune‑up and blower wheel pull and clean when accessible. Many breakdowns we see in July and August are preventable with this visit. H3: Energy Savings Program Members get priority scheduling, documented safety checks, and savings on repairs. Preventing a single emergency call often covers the annual cost. You also extend equipment life and control energy costs over time. H3: Filter Strategy for City Living Use the highest MERV your system can handle without dropping airflow. Most residential systems are happiest at MERV 8 to 11. Check monthly in summer, especially in construction zones or near busy streets. H2: When To Call a Professional Call a licensed pro when you notice any of the following: 1. Tripped breaker repeats after a single reset. 2. Ice on refrigerant lines or the indoor coil. 3. Burning smell, buzzing at the outdoor unit, or visible arcing. 4. Water around the furnace or ceiling registers. 5. The system runs continuously but never cools below 78 to 80 degrees on mild days. Oasis Heating and Cooling offers same‑day and next‑day scheduling across Chicago, Elmhurst, Bensenville, and Addison, with 24/7 emergency support at (773) 320-5395. Many parts are on our trucks, and we source uncommon components quickly so you can cool down fast. H2: Realistic Repair vs. Replace Guidance We recommend repair when: 1. The unit is under 12 years old and the compressor is healthy. 2. The failure is a single component like a capacitor, contactor, or fan motor. 3. Coils are clean and ductwork is in good shape. We recommend replace when: 1. Major leaks or compressor failure on older R‑22 or early R‑410A units. 2. Repeated breakdowns in peak season with high energy bills. 3. You want higher comfort, humidity control, and better air quality. We provide written options, load calculations on replacements, and financing up to 60 months with approved credit. Same‑day and next‑day installation is available subject to equipment and scheduling. H2: DIY Checklist: AC Not Blowing Cold Air 1. Set thermostat to Cool, new batteries, and temperature 3 to 5 degrees lower. 2. Confirm breakers and disconnects are on. 3. Replace filter. Open all vents and clear returns. 4. Inspect outdoor unit for debris. Rinse coils gently with power Off. 5. Clear condensate line with warm water and vinegar. 6. If you see ice, shut Off and run Fan only to thaw. Then call. 7. If the fan hums or will not start, call a pro to protect the compressor. H2: Proof You Can Trust Hard facts that protect your home and budget: 1. Only EPA Section 608–certified technicians may handle refrigerants under the Clean Air Act. 2. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter can lower AC energy use by 5 to 15 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Local insight: We often cool down Chicago bungalows and walk‑ups that overheat on the second floor. Correct balancing, a clean blower wheel, and a tuned charge usually solve it without upsells. On tight city lots, we frequently service condensers by ladder rather than crane, which saves time and money. ## Special Offers to Get You Cool Again - $77 Off Repair on qualifying residential HVAC repairs. Common causes include a clogged filter, dirty coils, low refrigerant, or a failed capacitor or fan motor. Start with airflow and power checks, then call a pro if you see ice, hear humming, or the breaker trips again. ### How long should it take to cool my home? A healthy system should drop indoor temperature about 1 degree per hour in typical summer conditions. If it stalls on mild days, check filters, coils, and refrigerant charge. ### Can low refrigerant damage my AC? Yes. Low charge can cause icing, overheat the compressor, and shorten equipment life. Only EPA‑certified technicians should check and correct refrigerant levels. ### How often should I replace my AC filter? Check monthly in summer and replace every 1 to 3 months based on dust, pets, and filter type. Use the highest MERV your system handles without restricting airflow. ### Is a tune‑up really worth it? Yes. A deep clean improves efficiency, catches failing parts early, and helps prevent peak‑season breakdowns. Many emergency calls we see are preventable with a seasonal tune‑up. ## In Summary If your AC is not blowing cold air, start with power, thermostat, filter, coils, and drain. Schaumburg HVAC Repair Costs vs Replacement — What’s Cheaper?

*Estimated Read Time: 10 minutes* HVAC repair vs replacement is one of the biggest money decisions for Chicago homeowners. If your furnace or AC is acting up, you want comfort restored fast without overpaying. This guide breaks down the true costs, life expectancy, and long-term savings so you can choose with confidence. Bonus: current offers can lower your out-of-pocket today. ## The Real Question: What Problem Are You Solving? A single failed part can make a healthy system look hopeless. Before you think replacement, confirm the root cause. Many no-heat or no-cool calls in Chicago come down to a dirty flame sensor, a bad capacitor, clogged drains, or a worn inducer motor. Repair makes sense when: 1. The system is under 10 years old and maintained. 2. The failure is isolated and parts are available. 3. Efficiency is still competitive and utility bills are stable. 4. Safety checks pass and carbon monoxide tests are clean. Replacement is smarter when: 1. The system is 12–20 years old with repeated breakdowns. 2. Repairs exceed 30–40 percent of a new unit cost. 3. Efficiency is far below modern standards, and bills keep rising. 4. Heat exchanger or compressor failure is confirmed. Local insight: Lake-effect winters and humid summers punish neglected systems. A $79 deep-clean can prevent many emergency calls, especially after long idle periods. ## Cost Factors That Decide Repair vs Replacement Every estimate should account for both upfront and lifetime costs. Here are the variables that move the needle most. 1. Age and condition - Under 10 years: most parts are worth fixing. - 10–15 years: do a cost-benefit with efficiency gains. - 15–20 years: start planning for replacement as repairs add up. 2. Part availability and labor - Common parts like capacitors, igniters, contactors, and sensors are quick and affordable. - Major components such as compressors, heat exchangers, and control boards drive labor and time. 3. Efficiency and utility spend - New systems can cut cooling and heating costs by 15–30 percent versus older units. - If your bills jumped after the last season, factor that waste into your decision. 4. Safety and compliance - A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue, not a routine fix. - CO readings and venting must pass. If not, replacement is usually best. 5. Home fit and comfort goals - If you fight hot second floors or chilly basements, a like-for-like swap may not solve comfort. - Replacement allows right-sizing, better airflow, and humidity control. 6. Timing and season - Winter cold snaps and July heat waves tighten schedules and stress old systems. - Pro tip: Shoulder seasons often mean faster installs and promotional pricing. Hard facts you can use today: - Oasis Heating and Cooling is family owned and operated since 1997. - Our Energy Savings Program is only $20 per month per system and includes 20 percent savings on future repairs and a free annual refrigerant charge up to 2 pounds. ## The 50 Percent Rule and Other Simple Math You do not need a spreadsheet to get close. Use these quick checks. 1. The 50 percent rule - If a repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new system, lean replacement. 2. Age times cost rule - Multiply system age by proposed repair cost. If the number is far over the price of a new mid-tier unit, consider replacement. 3. Downtime penalty - If your home needs heat now, a same-day repair that safely restores service can be worth more than a discounted install next week. 4. Utility savings offset - If a new unit cuts bills by 20 percent and you spend $2,400 per year on heating and cooling, that is roughly $480 saved annually. Over 10 years, that is $4,800 in utility savings. ## Typical Repair Costs in the Real World Pricing varies by brand, access, season, and warranty. Still, patterns hold. - Common repairs 1. Capacitor or contactor: fast, economical. 2. Igniter or flame sensor: affordable, often same day. 3. Condensate drain clearing and float switch issues: quick fix with maintenance tips. - Higher ticket repairs 1. Blower motor or inducer motor: parts plus labor, often same day if stock allows. 2. Control board replacement: moderate to high depending on model. 3. Compressor failure: major cost that often tips to replacement. 4. Heat exchanger: treat as a safety decision. Replacement is common. Remember, tune-ups prevent many of these. Our $79 AC or furnace deep clean includes up to 90 minutes and a blower wheel pull and clean when accessible. That service reduces strain and extends life. ## When Replacement Pays You Back A modern, right-sized system can improve comfort and lower bills. - Efficiency step up 1. New air conditioners and heat pumps can deliver higher SEER2 performance than decade-old models. 2. High-efficiency furnaces reduce fuel use and improve safety features. - Comfort and control 1. Better airflow design fixes hot and cold spots. 2. Integrated humidity control improves summer comfort. - Reliability and warranty 1. New equipment resets the breakdown clock. 2. Manufacturer warranties protect major components. - Financing options 1. With approved credit, 60-month financing spreads cost over time. 2. Combine with seasonal rebates when available. Local insight: Many Chicago bungalows have tight returns and older ductwork. A replacement plan that includes duct adjustments can transform comfort on the second floor. ## Hidden Costs People Overlook Savings disappear when hidden items pop up. Ask your contractor to include these in writing. 1. Code upgrades and permits - Venting changes, electrical upgrades, and condensate safety devices may be required. 2. Thermostat compatibility - Some older stats cannot drive variable speed equipment. 3. Duct and airflow corrections - Undersized returns choke efficiency. Simple changes can improve performance. 4. Indoor air quality add-ons - Humidifiers and filtration upgrades are smart during dry winters. Plan them now to avoid later service calls. 5. Seasonal surge pricing - Emergency labor during extreme weather can cost more. Maintenance helps you avoid peak failures. ## Maintenance Math: The Cheapest Path to Comfort Even if you choose repair today, a maintenance plan protects the investment. - The Oasis Energy Savings Program 1. Only $20 per month per system. 2. 20 percent savings on future repairs. 3. $50 annual credit toward new heating and cooling systems. 4. Free annual refrigerant charge up to 2 pounds. This plan prevents seasonal emergencies, extends equipment life, and lowers energy use. That is money you do not spend on rush parts and weekend calls. ## Safety First: When Repair Is Not the Answer There are moments when the decision is clear. - Cracked heat exchanger 1. Potential carbon monoxide hazard. 2. Choose replacement and protect your family. - Repeated high-pressure trips or compressor failure 1. Repairs may only delay the inevitable. 2. Replacement avoids future no-cool events in peak heat. - Failing wiring or melted connectors 1. Do not kick the can. Electrical safety comes first. We perform combustion analysis and CO testing on heating calls. If readings are unsafe, we recommend immediate action. ## Speed, Availability, and Real Outcomes Time is money when your home is uncomfortable. Speed and parts access matter. - Same-day or next-day service across Chicago, Cicero, Skokie, and more. - 24/7 emergency support at (773) 320-5395. - Fast parts sourcing and proven rapid turnarounds, including weekend installs when scheduling allows. Many homeowners recover comfort within hours with the right diagnosis. When replacement is smarter, quick scheduling limits downtime. ## How to Decide in 10 Minutes or Less Use this simple checklist during your visit. 1. Age of unit and maintenance history. 2. Exact failed component and availability. 3. Total repair quote versus 50 percent of new system. 4. Safety results, including CO and venting. 5. Estimated utility savings with new equipment. 6. Timeline to restore comfort today. 7. Any active coupons or financing you can apply now. Bring these answers together. If the repair is safe, quick, and well under half the cost of new, repair is likely cheaper. If the system is aging, inefficient, and the repair is large, replacement can cost less over five to ten years. ## Real-World Scenarios From Chicago Homes Scenario 1: Furnace no-heat during a cold snap - Diagnosis: Dirty flame sensor and restricted filter. - Action: Clean sensor, replace filter, verify combustion and CO. - Outcome: Heat restored within the hour. Repair was the right call. Scenario 2: AC trips breaker, warm air upstairs - Diagnosis: Failed capacitor and matted outdoor coil. - Action: Replace capacitor, deep clean coil, pull and clean blower wheel when accessible. - Outcome: Cooling restored and airflow improved. Repair plus maintenance saved a replacement. Scenario 3: 18-year-old furnace with high gas bills - Diagnosis: Heat exchanger wear and frequent lockouts. - Action: Replace system with a right-sized unit and airflow tweaks. - Outcome: Safer operation, better comfort, and lower monthly bills. Replacement paid back in savings and reliability. ## What Makes a Quote “Good” or “Incomplete” A good repair or replacement quote includes: 1. Diagnosis in plain language and photos if helpful. 2. All parts, labor, permits, and code items. 3. Warranty terms and maintenance options. 4. Timelines and any temporary heat or cooling plan. 5. Available coupons and financing. An incomplete quote leaves you guessing on hidden costs or warranty limits. Ask for clarity before you decide. ## Why Oasis Often Wins the Value Battle - Family owned since 1997 with local accountability. - Transparent pricing and a free second opinion with a written estimate from another provider. - Same-day or next-day scheduling across Chicago and nearby suburbs. - $77 off qualifying repair and a $79 deep-clean tune-up option. - Energy Savings Program that knocks 20 percent off future repairs. - 60-month financing with approved credit. Skokie HVAC Repair: AC Running but Not Cooling

*Estimated Read Time: 9 minutes* AC running but not cooling is the top summer call we get across Chicago. If your system hums but the air feels warm, this guide shows the fastest path to relief. We cover the most common causes, simple DIY checks, and when to call a pro. If you need help now, Oasis offers same-day service and 24/7 emergency support at (773) 320-5395. ## Why Your AC Runs But Blows Warm Air When an air conditioner runs yet fails to cool, it usually points to airflow loss, refrigerant problems, or control issues. Chicago’s humidity and long run times during heat waves stress parts and expose weak maintenance. The good news is many issues start small and can be fixed quickly when caught early. Expect the fix to fall into one of these buckets: 1. Airflow restricted by a dirty filter, clogged coil, or blocked return. 2. Outdoor unit problems like a dirty condenser or failing fan motor. 3. Low refrigerant charge from a leak or improper charging. 4. Thermostat or electrical control faults. 5. Drainage, icing, or safety switches stopping cooling. Below, we break down how to spot each and what to do next. ## Quick DIY Checks Before You Call Start with safe, simple steps that solve many no-cooling calls in minutes. 1. Set the thermostat to Cool and Auto. Lower the setpoint 5 degrees. 2. Replace or clean the air filter. If you cannot see light through it, it is clogged. 3. Check supply vents and returns. Open all vents and clear furniture within 12 inches. 4. Inspect the outdoor unit. Remove leaves and debris. Make sure the top fan spins. 5. Verify the breaker. Reset a tripped AC breaker once. If it trips again, stop and call. 6. Look for ice. If you see frost on refrigerant lines or the indoor coil, turn the system Off and set the fan to On for 2 to 3 hours to thaw. Do not chip ice. These steps restore airflow and power. If your home still will not cool, move on to the likely causes below. ## Cause 1: Dirty Air Filter or Evaporator Coil Restricted airflow starves the system and drops coil temperature. The coil can ice over and the AC blows warm. Signs: - Weak airflow at vents and rising humidity. - Filter is gray or bowed in. Dust on the indoor coil housing. - Ice or water near the furnace or air handler. Fix: - Replace the filter now. Use MERV 8 to 11 for most homes unless your system is designed for higher. - If icing occurred, let the unit thaw fully. Then retry cooling. - Have a technician deep clean the evaporator coil if dirt is embedded. In Chicago bungalows and two-flats, we often find pet hair and renovation dust matting the coil fins. Prevention: - Change filters every 30 to 90 days. During heavy use or if you have pets, change monthly. - Schedule a professional deep clean before summer. Our $79 AC Deep Clean includes up to 90 minutes and a blower wheel pull and clean when accessible. ## Cause 2: Dirty or Blocked Condenser Your outdoor condenser must dump heat to the outside air. When the coil is packed with cottonwood fluff or grease, pressures spike and cooling stops. Signs: - Outdoor unit runs hot to the touch. - Loud or strained sound. Fan may be running but air feels barely warm over the top. - High energy bills during mild weather. Fix: - Gently rinse the coil from inside out using a hose after power is off. Do not bend fins. - Clear weeds, trash cans, and grills at least 2 feet from all sides. In Chicago alleys, condensers often get blocked by bins. - If performance does not improve, a pro cleaning with coil-safe chemicals and a pressure check is needed. Prevention: - Rinse coils every spring. Trim shrubs. Install a cottonwood screen if your yard is a fluff magnet. ## Cause 3: Low Refrigerant or Leak Low refrigerant reduces heat transfer and can cause icing. Topping off without finding the leak is a short-term bandage. Signs: - Long run times with little temperature drop. - Frost on the copper lines or the indoor coil. - Bubbling or hissing near connections. Fix: - A licensed technician must perform leak testing, repair the leak, evacuate, and recharge to the manufacturer spec. Our Energy Savings Program even includes a free annual refrigerant charge up to 2 lbs, which helps maintain proper levels after verified repairs. Prevention: - Annual inspections catch weak fittings and rubbing lines before they leak. ## Cause 4: Failing Capacitor or Fan Motor If the outdoor fan or compressor tries to start but stalls, you may hear humming. A failed capacitor is common after heat waves. Signs: - Outdoor fan not spinning or starts, then stops. You may smell warm electrical odor. - Intermittent cooling, especially on the hottest afternoons. Fix: - Do not attempt to replace capacitors yourself. They store electricity. We stock common parts on our trucks and can often get you cooling same day. In peak season, we prioritize no-cooling calls in Chicago, Cicero, Skokie, and nearby suburbs. Prevention: - Routine tune-ups measure microfarads and motor amps to flag early failure. ## Cause 5: Thermostat or Control Problems A miswired or failing thermostat can keep the blower on while the compressor is off. You feel airflow but no cooling. Signs: - Fan runs with room temperature steady above setpoint. - System cools only in Fan On mode or cycles erratically. Fix: - Replace thermostat batteries. Confirm correct settings. - If problems continue, a technician can test low-voltage signals, contactor, and safety circuits to isolate the fault. Prevention: - Use a quality programmable or smart thermostat and keep firmware updated. ## Cause 6: Clogged Condensate Drain or Safety Switch Trip If the drain line clogs, water can trigger a float switch that shuts cooling off to prevent overflow. Signs: - Water near the furnace, gurgling drain, or AC stops then restarts randomly. Fix: - Clear the drain with a wet/dry vac from the outside port. - Pour a cup of white vinegar into the drain line every 1 to 2 months. - If the pan is rusted or the drain repeatedly clogs, we can fix the slope, flush the trap, or replace the line. Prevention: - Annual maintenance includes clearing the drain and checking safety switches. ## Cause 7: Duct Leaks or Closed Dampers Air can be escaping into the basement or attic. The system runs but rooms never cool. Signs: - Hot second floor and cold basement. - Whistling near duct seams. Dusty return closets in older Chicago homes. Fix: - Open all supply dampers. Seal accessible leaks with mastic, not tape. - Consider a static pressure test to diagnose hidden restrictions. Prevention: - After renovations, have ducts rebalanced and sealed. ## When To DIY vs Call a Pro DIY now: 1. Replace the filter and clear vents. 2. Rinse the outdoor coil gently and remove debris. 3. Reset the breaker once and thaw ice fully. Call a pro now if: 1. The outdoor fan or compressor will not start. 2. You see ice returning after thawing. 3. Breakers trip again or you smell electrical heat. 4. You have repeated drain backups or water near the unit. 5. You suspect a refrigerant leak. Oasis offers same-day and next-day service across Chicago, Elmhurst, Bensenville, Addison, and more. For emergencies, we are available 24/7 at (773) 320-5395. ## How Chicago Weather Wrecks AC Performance - Lake Michigan humidity pushes indoor dew points up, so your AC works harder to remove moisture. - Cottonwood season clogs outdoor coils in days, not months. - ComEd peak days create long run times that expose weak capacitors and motors. - Alley-mounted condensers collect dust, grease, and heat from nearby walls. Local knowledge matters. Our crews carry coil combs sized for common Chicago brands and know where builders hid returns in classic bungalows and two-flats. That saves diagnostic time and gets you cooling faster. ## Cost Guide: Repair vs Replace Repair ranges vary by part and access: - Capacitor or contactor: generally budget friendly. - Fan motor or drain repairs: moderate. - Refrigerant leak find and fix with recharge: higher due to testing and recovery time. Consider replacement if: 1. The system is over 12 to 15 years old and needs a major repair. 2. Your AC uses R‑22 refrigerant, which is no longer produced. 3. Energy bills are high and rooms are uneven. Oasis provides free second opinions with a written estimate from another provider. We also offer financing up to 60 months with approved credit, so you do not sweat big surprises. ## Preventive Maintenance That Actually Works Our Energy Savings Program focuses on what prevents breakdowns in Chicago homes. You get: 1. 20 percent savings on future repairs. 2. $50 annual credit toward a new heating or cooling system. 3. Free annual refrigerant charge up to 2 lbs. 4. Priority scheduling during heat waves. The $79 AC or Furnace Deep Clean targets failure points: - Up to 90 minutes of tune-up time. - Blower wheel pull and clean when accessible. - Safety checks, coil cleaning, and a performance report. Homeowners join to avoid seasonal emergencies, extend equipment life, and save energy over the life of the system. ## Step‑By‑Step Troubleshooting Flow 1. Confirm thermostat mode, setpoint, and fresh batteries. 2. Replace filter and open all vents and returns. 3. Inspect outdoor unit. Clear debris. Rinse coil. 4. Check breaker once. If it trips again, stop and call. 5. Look for icing. If present, thaw fully and then test. 6. If warm air continues, schedule service for electrical and refrigerant diagnostics. This flow solves simple problems and protects your system from further damage. ## What To Expect During an Oasis Service Call - Friendly scheduling and clear arrival windows. - A licensed technician who explains findings before work starts. - Upfront pricing and options, not pressure. - Truck‑stocked parts for common fixes so most repairs finish same day. - Photos or videos of the issue when helpful for your records. Many calls wrap in one visit. When parts are special order, we often source them fast. Reviews mention same‑day motor replacements and even full system swaps completed within short windows when needed. ## Safety Notes You Should Not Ignore - Never open electrical panels or handle capacitors. They can hold a charge. - Do not chip ice off coils. You will damage fins and cause leaks. - Avoid running the AC with a clogged filter. You risk compressor damage. If in doubt, turn the system off and call for help. It is cheaper to prevent a blowout than to replace a compressor. ## The Bottom Line If your AC is running but not cooling, start with airflow and cleanliness. Most chronic no‑cool cases trace back to filters, coils, or outdoor debris. If those check out, you likely have an electrical or refrigerant issue that needs a pro. Oasis Heating and Cooling can diagnose fast and restore comfort the same day in most cases. ## Special Offers for Fast Relief - Save $77 on qualifying HVAC Repair. Most cases come from airflow problems, dirty coils, or a refrigerant issue. Start by changing the filter, opening all vents, and rinsing the outdoor coil. If it still blows warm, call for diagnostics. ### Can a dirty filter really stop cooling? Yes. A clogged filter restricts airflow, the coil gets too cold, and ice can form. Ice blocks airflow and the AC blows warm. Replace the filter and thaw the system fully before restarting. ### Is it safe to hose down my outdoor unit? Yes, with power off. Gently rinse the sides from inside out. Do not bend fins or spray the electrical panel. Heavy buildup or grease needs professional cleaning. ### How long should it take to cool my house? A healthy system should drop indoor temperature 1 to 2 degrees per hour depending on heat load. If it does less on a mild day, there is likely a performance issue. ### When should I replace instead of repair? Consider replacement if the unit is 12 to 15 years old, uses R‑22, or needs an expensive major part. A free second opinion helps you decide with confidence. ## Conclusion AC running but not cooling does not have to ruin your day. Tackle airflow first, then call for help if cooling does not return.
